HARMONY, BELONGING, AND WARMTH
MATERIAL
Victorian timber speaks of quiet strength, timeless beauty, and deep-rooted resilience. Sourced from trees grounded in the rich Australian landscape, this noble hardwood carries the wisdom of generations and the steady energy of endurance. Its natural grain, full of warmth and depth, nurtures emotional balance, ancestral connection, and a sense of renewal. When brought into the home—especially in a striking two-tone palette of dark and white timber—it becomes more than a material. It becomes a living presence, evoking harmony, contrast, and character, while bringing protection, belonging, and love into every corner.
DESCRIPTION & CONSTRUCTION
At John Leighton, each Victorian timber étagère is handcrafted to honour this heritage while offering both function and feeling. Featuring six solid rectangular bases finished in soft white and cream matte tones, supported by round balls crafted from the same rich dark timber in a low-sheen satin finish, each two-tone design balances strength and serenity with sculptural elegance. Designed as a solid wood display shelf, it works beautifully as a natural wood shelving unit in the living room, a timber étagère in the hallway, or an accent shelf in a study or reading nook. The contrast between dark and light not only showcases the craftsmanship but also symbolises transformation and beauty through balance. Built from sustainable hardwood and finished with intention, it’s more than furniture—it’s a stage for treasured pieces, personal stories, and the everyday moments that give a home its heart.

DISCLAIMER
Victorian timber is a natural material, and as such, variations in color, grain, texture, and pattern may occur. These unique characteristics are inherent to the wood, making each piece one of a kind. While we take great care in sourcing and crafting our products, minor imperfections, knots, and natural movement in the timber are part of its organic beauty and do not affect its durability or quality.
Each piece is meticulously handcrafted to order, with a considered production and finishing period of approximately 6–8 months, allowing the time required to honour the material, the craft, and the final result.
